WASCO! (6+) | BUITENKANT VOET
This performance is part of three-day festival BUITENKANT VOET 2024, curated by dance collective Voetvolk / Lisbeth Gruwez and Maarten Van Cauwenberghe.
A group of kids, a few boxes of wax crayons, a large supply of paint and jazz - that's WASCO! Ten young performers between the ages of 6 and 12 build a world from scratch, far from that of adults. With wasco's and paint brushes in hand, they dance a universe on their terms. The end result: an extraordinary painting.
What is dancing other than drawing in space? Choreographer Lisbeth Gruwez and musician Maarten Van Cauwenberghe explore the interface between music, drawing and dance in WASCO! Together with the children, they develop a soundtrack, with room for unexpected actions and spontaneous outbursts.
If freedom has a form, what does it look like? WASCO! is an invitation to color outside the lines. An explosive action painting performance. Uninhibited, chaotic and wild. And sometimes soft.
In collaboration with Cultuurcentrum Mechelen.
BUITENKANT VOET
Since 2007, the dance collective Voetvolk (Lisbeth Gruwez & Maarten Van Cauwenberghe) has been building a cast-iron oeuvre. Think of productions such as AH/HA, We're pretty fuckin' far from okay, Lisbeth Gruwez dances Bob Dylan, The Sea Within, Piano Works Debussy and the recent Nomadics, which could be seen in the Stadsschouwburg and during our open-air festival BROEK 2024. In all this time, art center nona has been a faithful companion. This also resulted in two editions of BUITENKANT VOET, a three-day festival curated by Lisbeth and Maarten.
WASCO! is already present. You will soon discover the rest of the line-up via our website. The program is taking shape as we speak.
BUITENKANT VOET takes place from Thursday October 24 until Saturday October 26, 2024.
