The Meral Polat Trio provides an assault on your heart and legs. Meral Polat is an Amsterdam-based actress, singer and theatre-maker with Kurdish roots. Together with American multi-instrumentalist and composer Chris Doyle, and Belgian drummer Jens Bouttery, she takes you on a journey through contemporary Anatolian folk, Kurdish sounds and the roots of blues. Earthy, hopeful and intense songs.
Polat is a born storyteller. Her first album Ez Kî Me (Who am I) came about when she found poems by her father after his decease. Through his poetic legacy, the three of them embark on a quest and interpret the love, vitality and melancholy of the heart. Their album Ez Kî Me tells universal stories and is finally being brought to Belgian stages.
Concerts by the Trio invariably grow into spontaneous, lived-in and gripping experiences. Polat sings, dances and tells stories straight from the heart. Folk, blues, jazz, pop and timeless stories brought together in an intense overwhelm.
