JULIEN TASSIN +TASSIN/HERMIA/JORIS
JAZZLAB TOURNEE
A concert evening in two parts, with two new albums. Guitarist Julien Tassin landed in jazz via blues and rock. He now sets out to channel that baggage into a style of his own, hanging around in the border zones between genres. He already made a big impression with his Trio with Nicolas Thys and Dré Pallemaerts, which was recently expanded with American trumpeter Jason Palmer. It led to the first collaboration of two crucial Belgian labels: W.E.R.F. and Igloo Records. He now presents new work.
Besides his solo work, Tassin presents a new trio with Manuel Hermia and Chris Joris, experienced musicians with a weakness for exotic sounds. The saxophonist from Liège is one of our most fascinating musical explorers, with a penchant for Eastern sounds and ragas, among other things. Musician Chris Joris from Mechelen has got a taste for it again since the release of Until the Darkness Fades. Joris is an icon of Belgian jazz, a percussionist ahead of his time who opened up the sound of the genre in these parts. Together with Tassin and Hermia makes for a lived-in, wonderfully adventurous sound.
