BRAND! DAY 4
On 16 November and from 23 to 26 November, nona will once again realise jazz festival BRAND! The eighth edition once again highlights the versatile and vibrant Belgian jazz, combining it with good people from abroad.
This festival day will be broadcasted live on Klara Radio from 19:30 onwards.
Joachim Badenhorst's Zero Years Kid (20:00)
In a nutshell, Zero Years Kid is the project in which Joachim Badenhorst throws all rules and inhibitions overboard. The result is a colourful, slightly disordered amalgam of jazz, pop, experiment and warped R&B, with playful, poetic lyrics. Coastal artist Rinus Van de Velde provides an original visual insert!
vocals, clarinets, sax: Joachim Badenhorst - keyboard, guitar: Jan de Vroede - electric bass, modular synth: Lennart Heyndels - drums: Erik Heestermans
schntzl (21:15)
Get ready for schntzl 2.0. Starting from wonder boys of Belgian jazz, Hendrik Lasure and Casper Van De Velde have become unique bricoleurs of hyper-visual music from a parallel universe. A holiday in Italy in 2021 provided the breeding ground for their third album Holiday, a repository of 90s Euro-optimism, lost piano sounds, musique concrète and frenetic hyper-pop. Restraints and inhibitions have to go, fantasy rules. Anno 2023, schntzl naturally moves between sad euphoria, unashamed fun and pure experimentation, introspection and generous expression, freer and more adventurous than ever before.
synthesizer, piano, sampler, noise-box: Hendrik Lasure • drums, percussions, sampler, robotic beaters: Casper Van De Velde
Beraadgeslagen (22:30)
Beraadgeslagen - the duo of Lander Gyselinck and Fulco Ottervanger - is not a classical piano/drums duo, but a rhythm and sound laboratory, pouring its loves of hip-hop, crumpled electronics, sci-fi tinkering, jazz funk and the better life song into the blender, only to drip out in thick, fluorescent gulps. Huffing and puffing with a damaged Mario Bros soundcard, jumping between mutated trance and angular dance, Deliberate plays its combo of garage box music and veranda jazz, with the follow-up to Duizeldorp (2018) finally - FINALLY! - under its belt. On the new album Altijd Bewust Bewegen, the duo harmoniously translates head and body into Deliberate language. The two 2 improvisational athletes once again gracefully stretch themselves between the limits of gravity.
