THE 8TH LETTER - PARTICIPATIVE PERFORMANCE
The 8th letter, H, is the letter that started Effi & Amir's research into the both ancient and contemporary practice of “Shibboleth”, the determination of a person's group-belonging by a feature of their speech. In this participatory performance they invite a limited public of 20 people to explore together a familiar yet sometimes hostile territory, that of our vocal apparatus. Around a round table, lines are drawn, sounds are measured and stories are told of how a voice becomes a border, and a phoneme – a checkpoint.
The 8th Letter is a participatory performance, but this shouldn’t intimidate you. The participation is not expressive, not performative and doesn’t require any skill or talent. It is guided by a set of simple instructions. The joint result of the performance then becomes part of the C0N10UR exhibition trail.
Each performance is limited to 20 people. The event is free but reservations are required. English spoken.
