Silent Opera: Aria

SILENT OPERA: ARIA (TEASER)

Pieter Ampe & Michael Schmid

For Aria, Pieter Ampe and Michael Schmid use their backgrounds as dancer and flutist to explore how breathing communicates with their bodies. Aria is a duet that fuses choreography, music and performance art, using the breathing as its engine. The performance focuses on breathing as the driving force behind emotion and expressiveness. In doing so, the air moves through adoration, horror, confusion, awe, nostalgia and disgust.

Aria is part of Silent Opera, a trilogy in development. The teaser you will see during Buitenkant Voet is a way of giving a face to their collaboration and celebrating the playfulness of their working process.

Clair Obscur

CLAIR OBSCUR

Simon Lenski, Claire Chevallier, George van Dam & Adrien Lucca

Clair Obscur is an encounter between a piano trio and visual artist Adrien Lucca. The latter influences the musicians' perception by altering the spectrum of light with lighting devices he makes himself. The collaboration enables a visual intervention parallel to the music. The light and coloured objects on stage become a fourth member of the ensemble, synchronous with the playing, musical and autonomous. Minimalism takes up a central place between this subtle abstraction and the meditative musical programme. The artists conceive an arc from the pared-down later work of Franz Liszt to the twentieth- and twenty-first-century minimalism of Arvo Pärt, David Lang and Mauricio Kagel. In the process, the music colors the experience of light.
