PIECES OF A MAN

David Labi is a man in his forties with Jewish-English-Libyan roots. His father spent time in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as a child and survived a bombing and the Yom Kippur War. He was vain, self-centered, addicted to gambling and longed for a grand and compelling life. David, on the other hand, is sensitive and thoughtful. He loves books, art and arthouse movies. When David is twenty, his father dies. In the following years, David wanders the world. Until one night, alone at home in Berlin, he realizes that he is much more like his father than he cares to be. David, too, finds nowhere to rest.

Pieces of a Man is a monologue by David Labi about his father. A performance that balances between storytelling and stand-up comedy. In English.

True storytelling lies in the tension between narrator and story. And this solo, however simple, puts the puzzle perfectly.
