Carlo Nardozza
The Siu Lam Project
When jazz and kung fu meet... something very special is created. Trumpeter Carlo Nardozza has long been intrigued by this Chinese martial art as well as a practitioner of it for years. Because his fascination for it is as intense as his fascination for music, he set out to find a way to bring these two passions and disciplines together.
Five jazz musicians with impressive collective baggage share the stage with six kung fu masters led by Sifu Wai-Lam Yip. An authentic lion dance dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-906), echoes of war drums and blistering jazz interact. Improvisation and choreography alternate. Animalistic acrobatic movements are supported and stimulated by live music. ‘The Siu Lam Project’ is an unusually engaging crossover that rises to the challenge with infectious energy.
This concert takes place as part of Maandrang, a Mechelen poetry festival taking place for the second time.
