BRAND! DAY 3

Mirror Image Octet

Mirror Image (20:00)

Mirror Image Octet is a brand new top ensemble featuring some of Scandinavia's most notable jazz luminaries, whom you may have already seen at work with the likes of Atomic, Bill Frisell, Angles 9 and Emmeluth's Amoeba. Bandleader Ole Morten Vågan, who just two years ago signed for a banging concert in nona with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, challenges the octet with rhythmic conundrums and issues, while their solid but loose jazz flirts with contemporary sounds, African traditions and even baroque music. In short: a lush, multicoloured and big-hearted sound from an imaginative band tailored to a world in motion.

David Murray Quartet (21:30)

David Murray was barely twenty when he debuted in 1976 and in no time grew into the most lauded tenor saxophonist and bass clarinetist of his generation. His prodigious Octet, the groundbreaking World Saxophone Quartet and countless other projects still capture the imagination and testify to a seemingly endless creativity and productivity. In his instantly recognisable sound, gospel, free jazz, blues and poetry perform an incessant dance. In recent years, Murray likes to surround himself with young people. They challenge him, inspire him, ensure that adventure remains central. It led to a new peak in the career of this legend, whom we now finally have as our guest in nona!
